A few years ago the Washington State Legislature passed into law what is now RCW 19.190. However, RCW 19.190 does not ban spam. Basically, it says spam must be honest.

What is the rationale and authority for the legislature to give businesses permission to trespass onto and then use our property for the storage of their advertising without our permission?

When we open an account through an ISP or a web hosting company, we are allocated a fixed amount of storage space for incoming email. That storage space is our rental property. We don't rent it so that someone else can come along and plop down advertising that takes up our storage space. When that storage space gets full, all incoming messages are refused. If you rented a storage space in a mini-warehouse, it is your storage space. Is a known or even unknown business entitled to store stuff there without your permission? No. Then why is the storage space you rent from an ISP or hosting company made available by the legislature for the storage of advertising on your rental property without your permission?

If we walked in to the Bon Marche and put up a poster on the Bon's wall advertising our services, what do you think would happen? Security would be called and we would be told we are not allowed to do that without permission.

Perhaps you would like to write the Washington State Senators and Representatives a letter asking them why they have legalized the theft of our property.
