On December 18, 2001, I received four separate, but identical terse spams that read:
Subject: Best Rape and Lolita Porn on the net
Message: Best Rape and Child Porn on the net
Youngest and innocents girls and boys!
Whose photos were never published before!

I consider this spam to be one of the more offensive that I've received. Don't get me wrong. I detest all spam, not just the porno spam.

Know anybody who likes getting spam? Very few I bet. Take this comment from a friend to whom I mentioned www.AboutSpam.com:

Bruce,
Don't get me started about SPAM. Those no good scum sucking, shaggitie assed, thieving vampires. I hate all of them. They steal from us. -- January 9, 2002:

Many, many people get very emotional about the flood of email interfering with their ability to have clean, efficient, simple, and fast communication. I'm one of those folks. That's why I started www.AboutSpam.com.

We are fortunate in Washington State to have laws we can use as tools to help stop this stealing. It is my hope that if you are in Washington State, you will learn enough here to take action under Washington State laws.

If you are a resident of another State, let this site inspire you take action in your own state. Maybe you need to lobby for a law in Washington State like we did here. It can be done. Washington State is proof that it can be done. I will be providing a inside look into how Washington State residents got a commercial email law, which, unfortunately, does not forbid spam altogether. However, it is a great start and as the first collection of money from a spammer proves, it can be an effective tool. I don't get junk email from from any of those spammers who wised up and payed up.

I'm generally hospitable to media requests. I'm also very amenable to doing interviews via email. I prefer that initial requests be made by email to the address above. Include your publication, deadline, phone number, and whether or not you are freelance or staff.

Special note to video crews: I do not do video interviews in my residence.

I'm also available for speaking engagements.
